FWC Approves New Management Plan for Florida’s Listed Species

On November 17, 2016, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved the Imperiled Species Management Plan (ISMP), after years of development, review and public comment.

The ISMP will serve as the framework for protection and regulation of state listed species in Florida, and includes permitting options and guidelines.  The Plan also outlines when a permit is required, what specific activities may be allowed without a permit, as well as species-specific buffer zones or seasonal restrictions.  The Plan also includes species-specific management plans, guidance for conducting surveys, and options for avoiding/mitigating for potential impacts.

Rule changes associated with implementation of the ISMP are expected to take effect in December 2016.
