Home Building Industry Represented On The Constitutional Revision Commission

FHBA is proud to have two of its members, who uniquely understand our issues, appointed to the Constitutional Revision Commission.

Governor Rick Scott appointed homebuilder and FHBA member Carlos Beruff as the Commission’s Chair. Speaker of the House, Richard Corcoran, appointed fellow homebuilder, Senator Tom Lee, to serve on the commission.

As an FHBA member, what does the Constitutional Revision Commission mean to you and why do we need building industry representation?

The Constitution Revision Commission is a group of 37 commissioners who review and recommend changes to Florida’s Constitution that will make it to the ballot for a voter decision in 2018. Florida’s Constitution Revision Commission occurs only once every 20 years.

The Commission is vested with such broad powers that they can influence what is placed on the ballot, for example: a statewide income tax, moratoriums on growth, and even some version of hometown democracy (a governing system which required voter approval of changes in comprehensive plans). Rest assured, FHBA will monitor this group’s activities closely.

It is comforting to have members of the Commission intimately familiar with our industry.
