If there’s one thing Charles R. Clark loved to do, it was network. Charlie was brilliant at bringing people together to build lifelong friendships and inspire business relationships. Known lovingly as the Godfather of SMC, Charlie was the force behind building one of the nation’s greatest, and most awarded, Sales and Marketing Councils, the official marketing branch of the Northeast Florida Builders Association. Charlie was instrumental in nationally launching other SMC Chapters and he had a deep passion for helping to educate Realtors and site agents in all aspects of selling and knowing their buyer. He worked tirelessly with others to create the Certified Site Agent training, now known as CSP and Advanced CSP, along with the MIRM designation.
Charlie graduated from Bolles High School, Class of 1950 and attended Emory University. He went on to become a giant in the real estate industry as one of the most sought-after consultants and public speakers. His career took him across the nation and overseas to share his knowledge with others as they looked to him for housing/building statistics, trends, analyses and forecasts. He was a teacher, trainer, mentor and friend. He never gave less than all of himself to every person, task or endeavor and had the unique gift of making each feel respected and exceedingly special.
Charlie was the recipient of a great many awards including The Arnold Tritt Achievement Award, the Dick Baker Award, the John P. Hall Award, the Bill Molster Award, and was an inductee to the Florida Housing Hall of Fame.
One of the few advantages of dying from Stage 4 lung cancer with a heaping side of brain tumors, is that you have time to let others know your wishes. First and foremost Charlie wanted to thank his beautiful wife and the love of his life, Trudy for 45 incredible years of marriage. They were able to love and laugh their way through successful careers, four children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He wishes much love, joy and happiness for all of their futures and fully expects them to follow through on this.
Charlie is no longer a resident on earth. He wants you to know that he received a call of sorts from the man upstairs, who let him know that his work here on earth was done. He will now, no doubt, be organizing networking events, surveying the landscape and proposing possibilities for heavenly new developments. After a long and incredibly brave fight, Charlie has a new body and is worshiping at the feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he loves. His life and his legacy will always be remembered and celebrated. He made a huge impact on this world and made a difference in the lives of so many.
Charlie offers two suggestions for charitable giving: City Rescue Mission, a faith-based homeless shelter and The American Cancer Society. He would also like to encourage you to do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone less fortunate.
Charlie would like to recognize his brother, Dr. Tom Clark; his children: David R. Clark, Gary R. Clark, Karen C. Roske and Jason E. Simmons; His grandchildren: Chad Cox, Joshua Clark, Lindsey Caruso (and Paul), Brittany McGuire (and Sean), Melissa Clark and Cole Roske; and His great-grandchildren: Matthew DeVaughn, Joshua Clark, Jr., Cadence Clark, and Jacob Caruso.
