Englewood Local, William “Bill” Truex, Installed as 67th President of the Florida Home Builders Association

The Florida Home Builders Association installed William “Bill” Truex as its 67th President on Saturday, October 6, 2018, during the FHBA Fall Leadership Conference at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs, Florida. Truex is President of Truex Preferred Construction in Englewood, Florida.

In 1998 as a licensed contractor, and now holding numerous professional certifications and licenses, Bill began a life and business that focused beyond the day-to-day.

While offering outstanding craftsmanship to his projects, Truex saw a need to support the building industry and do all that he could to serve as its voice in his local community. From 2009-2012, Truex held a seat in the Charlotte County Board of Zoning Appeals. While in that position, and in tandem with his engaging membership with the Charlotte DeSoto Building Industry Association (CDBIA), Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA), and National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), Truex continued his public service through his election to the Board of County Commissioners, where he subsequently was elected three years in a row to serve as Chairman.

“Over the years, I have witnessed Bill grow by building a better community through his knowledge of the construction industry and advocacy at the local level,” states Suzanne Graham of Massey Services and 2012-13 FHBA President. “This will help him build Florida into an even more pro-growth state”

John Kapper of Kapper Contracting and CDBIA 2018 President comments, ““Bill is a true example of leadership in the building industry. He has paved the way in our community for many builders and I look forward to his leadership throughout the state.”

Truex’s service to CDBIA, FHBA, and NAHB has equipped him for the role of FHBA President. He served as Vice Chair and Chair of the FHBA Government Affairs Committee, and Vice Chair of the FHB Political Action Committee. He has also been a member of the FHBA and the NAHB Boards of Directors.

“Florida’s home building industry is a reflection of what is happening at the grass roots level,” said Rusty Payton, FHBA CEO/Chief Lobbyist. “Bill knows exactly what it takes to foster a sensible and streamlined process to continue to improve the economic building environment for our State.”

Other FHBA Officers are: First Vice President, Michael Bourre’; Second Vice President, Rick Ilmberger; Secretary, Scott McCracken; Third Vice President, Natasha Cartagena Spencer; Immediate Past President, Gregory Matovina; and Immediate Past Second Vice President, Shelley Stewart.

Established in 1949, the Florida Home Builders Association is affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and Florida’s local/regional homebuilder associations. FHBA, along with its affiliates, work to create the best possible economic and regulatory environment for members to succeed.
