Shelley Stewart, CLC, President of Daytona Beach-based Southern Title, joined women leaders representing some of the largest title companies in the nation at the “Women in Title” event hosted by First American Title Insurance Company in April. Only 40 women were invited to the two-day event held in Santa Ana, California, which fostered discussions on the opportunities and challenges in the title industry as well as the growing influence of women in the industry.
This is the second year Stewart has been invited to this exclusive event.
“It is such an honor to be part of amazing group of women who have done so much for the industry over the past 30 years,” said Stewart, who started working for a title agency while still in high school. “While we may face different challenges, our common goal is to provide a smooth and seamless closing experience for the American consumer, while protecting their property rights.”
Stewart has served as president of Southern Title since it was created in 1995 and has been the driving force behind its growth to become the market leader in Volusia County. She has served as president of the Florida Land Title Association and was one of three agents appointed by then Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp to serve on the 2008 Title Insurance Advisory Council.
Stewart is actively involved in the government affairs committee for both the American Land Title Association and the Florida Land Title Association, serving as FLTA’s Government Affairs chair, and is the agent liaison to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
In addition to leadership positions in the title insurance industry, Stewart is the Second Vice President with the Florida Home Builders Association, is on the board of the Volusia Building Industry Association, and is a Trustee with the VBIA’s Housing for Tomorrow Political Action Committee.
Southern Title currently provides residential settlement and closing services from its offices in Jacksonville, Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, Ormond Beach, two locations in Daytona Beach, Port Orange, Deltona, Kissimmee, Leesburg, and Tampa. In addition, the company operates a Commercial Division in Ormond Beach.
