The Florida Home Builders Foundation, Inc. (FHBF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The purpose of the FHBF is to engage in housing-related educational activities, including assisting people in understanding and pursuing rewarding careers in home building and related trades.

FHBF administers a scholarship fund to address the pressing need for a better educated and trained construction industry workforce.  Scholarship funds are distributed each year based on available funds as determined by the Board’s annual budget allocation.  Any unused scholarship awards are required to be returned to FHBF and will be put in the General Scholarship Fund.

FHBF offers a tiered scholarship program with the following categories:

  • Tools of the Trade – This scholarship is for high school students entering the construction industry who need assistance purchasing essential tools.  Up to $500, will be paid directly to the employer or apprenticeship sponsor to cover the cost of the required tools.
  • Travel Assistance/Gas Card – This scholarship is for students starting careers in construction who need help with travel expenses. Primarily providing gas cards, this scholarship, up to $500, will be paid directly to the employer or apprenticeship sponsor for work-related travel expenses.
  • Accelerated Skills Training Programs (AST) – This scholarship supports students pursuing short-term construction training programs (intended to be completed within 18 months). Applications for these programs will be prioritized. Scholarships, up to $1,500, will be paid directly to the training institution.
  • College Tuition – This scholarship is for students in good standing at a Florida secondary or post-secondary institution pursuing a construction-related career. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0. Scholarships, up to $1,500, will be paid directly to the educational institution.

The FHBF Board will appoint a Scholarship Review Committee to recommend scholarship awards. The committee will consist of up to five members from the skilled trades and the building sector. It will assess eligibility and recommend funding based on the Board’s annual budget allocation.

Applicants must complete the Scholarship Application and submit at least one recommendation from an academic or trade teacher who is familiar with the applicant. They must also provide a brief essay detailing their experience in the construction industry and career goals. College Tuition applicants must include their most recent transcripts with their GPA.

These policies may be updated periodically at the discretion of the FHBF Board of Directors. Records of all applications and scholarship awards will be kept on file at the FHBF office.
